Experience Bank

ExperienceBank is an innovation in community leadership, which draws upon the knowledge, strengths and reputation of Leadership Victoria, including the Williamson Community Leadership Program, SkillsBank and Board Orientation Series. It aims to harness the leadership skills and experience of senior professionals and executives for community and individual benefit. It extends Leadership Victoria’s commitment to community capacity building.

ExperienceBank is a program for senior professionals which overviews community issues, maps the nonprofit sector and community involvement options, explores experience transfer and facilitates an initial community placement.

ExperienceBank comprises an orientation program of seven sessions (weekend, week day and evening) spread over four months, a guided community placement and access to community involvement information and opportunities (for twelve months) such as joining a nonprofit Board, mentoring and working with a team to give pro bono advice to a community organisation.

The two phases are integral to the unique nature of this community leadership initiative. As Graduates of the ExperienceBank program, they are acknowledged as Leadership Victoria Associates.

ExperienceBank participants share a deep desire to make a difference in significant and inspirational ways which utilise their professional skills and leadership experiences for community benefit.

It is difficult to know what to expect in starting the ExperienceBank course or even to clearly identify personal motives.  Many preconceptions are brushed aside by a snapshot of Victorian Society that would be hard to get from any other source: journeys into inspiring successes, deep problem areas barely coping and a resilience of community.  The take home messages for me were that there is a lot going on out there, many passionate and professional people and yet so much to do.  The challenges were fairly set and the opportunities to contribute clearly defined.  Thus the framework for an opportunity to contribute was made well.  The time spent in the leadership program flew past made easier by energetic colleagues and a passionate Leadership Victoria management team which carefully programmed the activities and delivered a learning experience that could not be obtained elsewhere.
